Visit by Athens Consular Officer to Thessaloniki May 26 and 27, 2022

U.S. citizens of Northern Greece can make appointments in Thessaloniki with a Consular Officer from the U.S. Embassy on Thursday, May 26 and Friday, May 27 to request Consular Services.

Consular services will include accepting passport applications for persons NOT eligible for mail-in passport renewal, as well as registering birth abroad to U.S. citizen parent(s).  These services are available by appointment only.  A limited number of appointments will be offered to individuals who submit complete requests by e-mail as outlined below.

Services Available:

In-Person Passport Application

Passport appointments will be available for individuals who must apply in person (i.e., minors, those applying for the first time as an adult, those whose passports expired more than five years ago).  Individuals who are eligible for mail-in application services will NOT be offered appointments and should use the mail-in passport renewal program.

To request an in-person passport appointment, send the following documents to AthensAmericanPassports@state.gov:

·         DS-11 Form, Filled Out Electronically

·         Scanned copy of U.S. Passport

·         Scanned copy of additional ID (Greek ID, foreign passport, Driver’s license, etc)

·         For minors under age 18: Scanned copy of birth certificate

·         For minors under age 18: Scanned copy of both parents’ passports

Forms and instructions for passport application for adults and minors may be obtained at https://gr.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passports/.

The applicant (and both parents, if a minor) must appear in person on the day of the appointment.  On the day of the appointment, you must bring all of the original documents (passports, IDs, birth certificates), as well as a photocopy of each document.  You must also bring payment, as described below.

Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA):

CRBA appointments will be available in order to document U.S. citizenship of a child born abroad to a U.S. citizen parent or parents.  Information on claiming U.S. citizenship may be obtained at https://gr.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/child-family-matters/birth/.

To request a CRBA appointment, complete application forms DS-11 and DS-2029 (electronically) and gather all supporting documents as listed on the  CRBA checklist (96KB).  Send a scanned copy of the package (all documents) to AthensCRBA@state.gov.  Once received, documents will be reviewed and you will be contacted to schedule an appointment for an interview with the Consular Officer at the Consulate General in Thessaloniki on May 26.  The presence of the parents and the child/children is required on the day of the appointment.  On the day of the appointment, you must bring originals as well as photocopies of all documents on the CRBA checklist.  You must also bring payment, as described below.

Please ensure all foreign-language (non-Greek) documents are accompanied by an official English translation.
