This guidance also applies to first-time applicants of these visa categories.
- B1, B2, B1/B2, and C1/D visa applicants can use the mail-in program to renew U.S. visas of the same classification within 48 months of the prior visa’s expiration.
Important: The Consular Section will request an interview if any discrepancies are identified between the current and previous visa applications or for any other reason.
STEP TWO: Applicants must register with the Global Support Services (GSS) website and pay the fee before sending their mail in applications. Failure to do so may result in your application being returned to sender.
Important Reminder: Average processing time for mail-in applications is 10 business days from the time the Embassy receives your application. It is the applicant’s responsibility to track the package prior to arrival and after departure from the Embassy.
Reminder: We always recommend that individuals apply for visas well in advance of their proposed date of travel. No assurances regarding the issuance of visas can be given in advance. Therefore, final travel plans, or the purchase of non-refundable ticket should not be made until a visa has been issued and you are in receipt of the passport.
