In meetings with the Minister of Macedonia and Thrace and the Mayor of Thessaloniki, the Ambassador discussed the unique challenges regional and government officials confront and their efforts to stimulate economic growth through the promotion of tourism, entrepreneurship, export-orientation, and energy, with a particular emphasis on creating employment opportunities for young Greeks. During a visit to the American Farm School, the Ambassador learned of the school’s efforts to promote value-added growth in the Greek agro-food sector through the school’s Center for Agricultural Entrepreneurship and other programs which have benefited from U.S. government funding. Finally, the Ambassador explored some of the rich cultural heritage of Central Macedonia during visits to the Royal Tombs at Vergina and the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.
