DAVOS-KLOSTERS, SWITZERLAND – U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew met today with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting.
Secretary Lew and Prime Minister Tsipras discussed the importance of the Greek government continuing to implement economic reform and noted the important reforms Greece has adopted to date. Secretary Lew encouraged Prime Minister Tsipras to continue to work closely with his European partners and highlighted the important role of the International Monetary Fund in the reform process.
Secretary Lew underscored the importance of the international community following through on its commitment to put Greece’s debt on a sustainable path through debt relief. Secretary Lew added that Treasury continues to closely monitor Greece’s economic situation.
Secretary Lew also expressed his continued concern for the refugee crisis in Europe and offered his support for a comprehensive European solution to prevent further hardship and loss of life.
