Thessaloniki – The American Consulate General announces the arrival of the new Consul General Ms. Rebecca A. Fong, who is succeeding Robert P. Sanders.
Prior to her assignment to Thessaloniki, as a career Foreign Service Officer, Ms. Fong has served at the U.S. Consulate in Herat, Afghanistan; the U.S. Embassy in Damascus, Syria; the U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan; the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq; the U.S. Embassy in Manama, Bahrain and as the Advisor on Financial and Investment Affairs at the U.S. Mission to OECD in Paris, France. During her public service career she also served in Algeria, Russia, Croatia and Italy. Prior to joining the State Department Ms. Fong was the Vice President of International Operations for The Gap.
Ms. Fong speaks Greek, Dari, Arabic, French, Chinese and Russian. She holds an M.A. degree in International Policy Studies and an M.A. in Russian Language and Literature. She is a graduate of the University of California with a B.A. in Russian Area Studies and B.S. in Biochemistry. She is a native of California.
