Workshop for Journalists from Greece and North Macedonia News agencies in Thessaloniki June 25-26

From June 25-26, the US Embassies in Greece and North Macedonia, the State Department’s Global Engagement Center (GEC), the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), and the Centre for European Perspective, along with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA), co-hosted a workshop entitled “Empowering Journalists to Address Disinformation in Greece & North Macedonia” at HELEXPO in Thessaloniki. During the workshop, 35 journalists from AMNA, North Macedonia’s Media Information Agency (MIA), private media outlets, as well as academics and representatives from civil society discussed topics including the disinformation challenges faced by both countries and multisector approaches to combating it. They also discussed possible follow-ups, including additional training sessions and the creation of a digital communicators hub in Thessaloniki to address disinformation.

The workshop was organized by the GEC and AMNA, building on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between USAGM and AMNA in 2018 marking US participation as the Honored Country at the Thessaloniki International Fair.
