The American Consulate General in Thessaloniki, Greece

Established as a Consular Agency in the 1870’s

A brief description of the Consulate

The Consulate General occupies a purpose-built suite on the 7th floor of a new commercial office building on the city’s major commercial artery.

The Consulate General building was built in 1999.

Office hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (Greek and American holidays excluded).

The Consulate’s phone number is +30 2310 376 300

The office space is modern, well lit, disabled-accessible, and fully climate-controlled. In addition to the usual offices, meeting rooms, and consular waiting area, the location has a multipurpose space used to host cultural events and exhibits. This multipurpose room is named “David Tiano Room” in memoriam of a U.S. Consulate Jewish employee who was arrested by the Nazis when the U.S. declared war on Germany in December 1941.  Tiano was arrested together with two other Consulate employees, Karasso and Vafiades and they were all sent to a concentration camp in Thessaloniki.  While Karasso and Vafiadis were released after spending several months in prison, Tiano was executed on February 7, 1942.
