Demonstration Alert – U. S. Embassy Athens, Greece (October 7, 2020)

Location: Announced gathering points around Greece include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

·         Athens, at the Ambelokipi Metro Station

·         Athens, at the Court of Appeals near Alexandras Ave and Loukareos St

·         Thessaloniki, at Archaias Agoras Square

Event: Demonstrations are expected to take place on October 7, 2020 beginning at 9 a.m.  The demonstrations are in response to a court case involving members of the far-right Golden Dawn party.  Road closures have been announced in Athens beginning at 8:30am on October 7, 2020 for Alexandras Ave from Panormou St to Moustoxidi St, and may continue through October 9, 2020.

U.S. government personnel are advised to use alternate routes and avoid areas of the demonstrations.

Actions to Take:

·         Avoid the areas of the demonstrations.

·         Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.

·         Monitor local media for updates

·         Keep a low profile.
