Veria Tech Lab is located at the Central Public Library of Veria, a model Greek public library and recipient of 2010 Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation “Access to Learning” Award. The library offers a wide variety of multimedia equipment for public use including 3D printers and robotic sets supporting a wide range of STEM related activities. Veria’s public library collaborates with many international and Greek organizations and hosts a wide range of educational and cultural programs. The library serves the city’s 50,000 residents and an additional 30,000 people in the wider region.
In 2015, the host institution created a maker space on library’s first floor and in early 2017 added an American touch to its existing design. American-theme wall graphics and posters decorated part of this space selected from Smithsonian Idea Book 2.0.
As a result, our new American space saw an impressive increase in terms of attendance. In 2017, the Veria TechLab organized 122 programs. Most popular were the workshops on computing/coding and 3D printing.
