Consul General Rebecca Fong discussed the United States Electoral System and the Primaries with a group of 70 students of Political Science at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.  CG Fong offered an overview of the U.S. Presidential Elections, focusing on how the U.S. primary and general election works and the difference between popular voting and electoral voting.  The students asked about the current status of the presidential primary race, issues that impact the political campaigns, how Americans vote, absentee voting, and the importance of participation in the.  The Consulate General’s two local interns gave a presentation on the three branches of government in America and their importance with regards to how each branch checks the power of the others to provide the country with a relative balance of power.  The Interns’ presentation also prompted the students to do more research on American government through State Department resources and internet links.
