City of Tarpon Springs Announces Twinning Ceremonies with Three New Sister Cities

The City of Tarpon Springs will formalize Sister City Agreements with three new Sister Cities in Greece later this month. Twinning Ceremonies will be held in the cities of Chania, Hydra and Ilida formally acknowledging the new friendship agreements and furthering the commitment of the City of Tarpon Springs to the preservation of its Greek culture and heritage.

City of Tarpon Springs Mayor Chris Alahouzos will sign the agreements with the Mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis; the Mayor of Hydra, George Koukoudakis; and the Mayor of Ilida, Giannis Lymperis.

The schedule for the upcoming ceremonies is as follows:

September 20th to September 21st – Chania

September 25th to September 26th – Hydra

September 27th to September 29th – Ilida

The Sister Cities program develops cooperation between cities for the exchange of cultural, educational, and economic development programs. Chania is the home to the United States Naval Base in Souda Bay. Many Tarpon Springs residents trace their heritage to Chania. Many of Tarpon Springs first sponge divers were recruited from the city of Hydra and Ilida is the home of the first Olympic Games.
