Diplomats from the Embassies of Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the USA and Venezuela in Greece will once again be expressing their support for the Athens Pride festival and parade on Saturday June 10, 2017 by taking part in the day’s events.
We are delighted to support this year’s Athens Pride – Φεστιβάλ Υπερηφάνειας Αθήνας, which, for the first time, will take place in Syntagma Square – the very heart of the city.
The theme of this year’s Athens Pride – “It’s Education” – highlights the major impediments to societal acceptance and understanding faced by LGBTQI people in Greece. Education encompasses the totality of personal formation, including schooling, upbringing, lifelong learning, and culture. Our countries strongly support the rights of all LGBTQI people as part of our commitment to universal human rights. Like Athens Pride, we strive for a world which values compassion, solidarity and respect for all regardless of their sexuality or gender identity.
Annual LGBTQI pride events take place around the world, usually in June. Pride events serve to reaffirm the equality and dignity of all people.
