February 27 was the opening day of the AnimaSyros Animation Festival – Destination Trikala, with the participation of both children and “older children” who are fans of cartoons and animation as a cinematographic art.  With the support of the U.S. Mission, this was the first “trip” of AnimaSyros outside of the island, which was concluded with success, in the presence of both the Ambassador and the Mayor of Trikala.  Ambassador Pearce noted in his welcome remarks the importance of this form of art and American excellence in developing animation, while the mayor of Trikala noted the need to have cultural festivals in provincial cities around Greece.

Participants, both young and old, had the chance to watch the Panorama of American Animation, organized by AnimaSyros and Platforma Cultural Association, in cooperation with the City of Trikala and the U.S. Embassy.  The event, taking place at the renovated “Matsopoulos Mill” of Trikala, attracted a wide audience of both young and not so young children, who enjoyed a weekend full of screenings of a wide selection of American animation films, including the special 3D screening of Coraline (2009) and Boxtrolls (2014.)  Parallel to the screenings, young participants had the chance to attend a workshop on the art of animation, as well as screenings dedicated to the art of motivation along with educational programs.
