Ambassador Pyatt’s Remarks for Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce 70th Annual Gala Dinner

(Video Remarks)

New York City

March 29, 2019

Good evening.

Though I’m unable to join you all in person this evening, I’m delighted to be able to support this important event.  Now seventy years strong, the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce’s gala highlights the enduring relationship between Greece and the United States, and the critical role of the Chamber in promoting our economic and cultural ties.

The bonds between Greece and the United States, particularly among our shipping and maritime communities, are a critical foundation of our deep bilateral relationship, and deliver ongoing benefits to our people, businesses and governments.

As such, it is especially fitting that you are also honoring Nicolas Vernicos today for his support of our bilateral relationship and the shared prosperity of both Greece and the United States.  Among many other connections to the United States, Vernicos Tugs and Salvage is one of the exceptional Greek maritime service companies that  enables U.S. Navy and Maritime Sealift Command ships to safely and expeditiously conduct port visits throughout Greece.

I want to congratulate Nicolas and thank all of you for your commitment to our community and an ever stronger relationship going forward.  Chronia Polla!
