Signing Ceremony of Agreement between Ministry of Defense and U.S. Company ENVIPCO for Recycling Machines
Remarks by U.S. Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey R. Pyatt
Ministry of Defense, Athens
November 5, 2018
Thank you Minister Kammenos. It is a great honor for me to be here at the Ministry of Defense and to join you today in celebrating this partnership between the Ministry of Defense and Envipco Hellas.
Today’s celebration marks one more success underlining the strength of the U.S.-Greece relationship on multiple fronts in terms of defense and security cooperation, people to people ties, and of course the critical area of trade and investment. These strong ties served as the foundation for our landmark achievement as the honored country at the Thessaloniki International Fair in September and give us great momentum moving into the U.S.-Greece Strategic Dialogue, which will launch in Washington on December 13th under the chairmanship of Secretary of State, Pompeo.
I was thrilled to learn about the operations of Envipco Hellas during the Thessaloniki International Fair when I had the chance to visit Envipco’s stand in the US Pavilion in several occasions including with Prime Minister Tsipras and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. There we learned about the impressive work their organization is doing in Greece, and as an added bonus, we saw a video presentation by their honorary “Recycling Ambassador” and NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Envipco, headquartered in the U.S. state of Connecticut, is a world leader in the manufacturing and development of automated recycling machines.
Together with the Greek company Texan Environmental Management, Envipco Hellas has been established to assemble these machines in Greece. As a result, Greece will become an important hub both to encourage recycling and for exporting this technology to the wider Balkan region.
I would like to thank Envipco’s President and CEO Gool Santchurn and Texan CEO Apostolos Mourgos for helping us to highlight the U.S. – Greece business collaboration at TIF. And thank you Minister Kammenos for your always strong partnership, for taking the time to visit this and many other companies at the USA Pavilion and for all you are doing to help us continue to strengthen and deepening the importance alliance between our two countries. Thank you very much!
