
U.S. Ambassador Pearce, appeared on SKAI TV’s Econews on Saturday October 3, to help increase awareness of the U.S. National Ocean Policy. The Ambassador addressed the importance of volunteering, which can be a useful tool in implementing social and environmental policies. In his interview, the Ambassador discusses how the U.S. Embassy in Athens, wanting to do a program for the protection of marine ecosystems, decided to partner with NGO Archelon, and emphasizes how amazed he’s been by the fact that despite the economic crisis in Greece, volunteers help social and environmental NGOs fulfil their work and mission.
The video then discusses how climate change has become a focal point in U.S. policy, with President Obama committing on the fight against climate change and how the U.S. Government is working on a great international climate agreement in December in Paris. In addition, the Ambassador discusses how businesses and the economy have often been influenced by major events such as switching from coal to steam, oil to gas, and believes that there will be many business opportunities within these new technologies. Finally, according to the Ambassador, the production of alternative energies, will not only be beneficial for the survival of the planet, but will also create a positive outcome for the economy.
