Health Alert:  U.S. Embassy Greece – updated entry dates for U.S. citizens

The Greek government announced an update to its tourism plan first released on May 29.  U.S. citizens are permitted entry to Greece beginning June 15, but you may be subject to COVID-19 testing and quarantine depending on where your travel originated.  Please see below for details.

Entry/Exit Requirements

  • Today through June 14:  Non-EU citizens are banned from entering Greece for non-essential travel, which includes tourism.
  • June 15 – June 30:  U.S. citizens are permitted to enter Greece subject to COVID-19 testing and quarantine restrictions depending on where your travel originated.  *See Quarantine Information below.*
  • July 1:  The Greek government is expected in the coming weeks to announce additional restrictions regarding certain countries effective July 1.

Quarantine Information

  • Today through June 14:  All international passengers must take a COVID-19 test upon arrival and are required to stay overnight at a designated hotel.  Details are on our website.
  • June 15 – June 30:  July 1:  The Greek government is expected in the coming weeks to announce additional restrictions regarding certain countries effective July 1.
    • If your travel originates from an airport on the European Union Aviation Security Agency (EASA) affected area list, you will be tested on arrival.  An overnight stay at a designated hotel is required.  If the test is negative, you are released for a seven day self-quarantine.  If the test is positive, you are quarantined under supervision for 14 days.
      • Origination is the first flight on your travel itinerary.  For example, if you travel from the United States and connect through Germany, your U.S. flight is considered your origination.  If your origination airport is on the EASA affected area list, you are subject to testing and quarantine per above.
      • We have requested clarification on several scenarios – such as transit from a country not on the EASA list through a country on the EASA list.  We will update our COVID-19 page as more information becomes available.
    • If your travel originates from an airport not on the EASA affected area list, you are subject to random tests upon arrival.

Please monitor our COVID-19 page for updates and additional information.
